Virtual Third-Party Reproduction Consultations & Evaluations

Per the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM), psychoeducational consultation with a mental health professional (MHP) trained in reproductive psychology and third-party reproduction is recommended for all recipients of donor gametes (eggs, sperm) and/or embryo(s), as well as intended parents in gestational carrier agreements.

Psychoeducational consultation and evaluation is recommended for all gamete/embryo donors and gestational carriers.

How I can help

Psychoeducational Consultations & Psychological Evaluations

  • The psychoeducational consultation process for individuals considering use of donor gametes consists of:

    1. One 75-120 minute meeting with both members of the couple (if applicable) receiving gamete or embryo donation. During this meeting, we will discuss topics such as your reproductive journey, life history, considerations regarding disclosure, and an opportunity to express any concerns or ask any questions. This consultation is NOT an evaluation of parental fitness or to assess whether or not you will be a good parent.

    2. If you are using a directed (known) donor, then the donor will also undergo a 90-120 minute meeting with me where I will collect information regarding their mental health history, reproductive history, relationship history, and other relevant areas. If the donor is married or partnered, their partner is also expected to attend this appointment. Consistent with the ASRM 2021 guidelines, the donor will also virtually complete a psychological assessment measure during this meeting to assess appropriateness to continue with the donor process.

    3. The final stage is a joint 60-minute session with the donor recipients, the donor and their partner, and myself where will discuss expectations for communication, relationship roles, and exploration of disposition of any remaining embryos or gametes.

    Pricing:

    • $525 for undirected (formerly known as “unknown” or “anonymous”) donor arrangements- this includes the 75-120 virtual psychoeducational consultation between myself and the donor recipients, as well as a written report of this meeting provided directly to your fertility clinic.

    • $1,225 for directed (formerly known as “known”) donor arrangements - this includes all three steps listed above in the psychoeducational consultation and evaluation process, as well as a written report provided directly to your fertility clinic.

All services are provided virtually via a secure, HIPAA compliant video-conferencing platform.

  • Some fertility clinics recommend individuals have a psychoeducational consultation meeting with a mental health professional prior to starting ART treatment. Topics of these consultations usually include a review of your life and mental health history, discussion of the emotional and psychological aspects of infertility and the treatment process, strengthening social support, and providing tools for coping with difficulties such as needle phobia, fears of pregnancy, or emotional discomfort with medical procedures. Some individuals decide to become a therapy client with me after this appointment in order to address any mental health difficulties identified in the consultation, however, this is NOT required.

    Pricing:

    • $350 - this includes the psychoeducational consultation meeting and a written report provided directly to your fertility clinic.

All services are provided virtually via a secure, HIPAA compliant video-conferencing platform.
